Grande

Grande is a French word meaning “large” or “big.” In ballet it describes the size of a step and is almost never used on its own. Instead it attaches to another word to show that a movement should be done big and full rather than small. For example, grande allegro means large, high, traveling jumps, and grand jeté means a big leap. When you hear grande, expect the movement to reach its fullest size, with wide, high, or far-reaching action rather than a compact version of the same step.
