About

The barre for the next generation of dancers.

BalletBox started with a simple idea: young dancers and their parents deserve clear, trustworthy guidance in a world that too often gatekeeps it.

Raising the Barre is our journal. It is where we answer the questions dancers actually ask: how to know when you are ready for pointe, how to care for your shoes so they last, how to prevent the injuries that end seasons early, and how to fall in love with the art form all over again. Every guide is written to be useful the day you read it and the season after that.

Who it is for

Two readers sit at the barre with us. The dancer, somewhere between her first pair of slippers and her first variation, hungry to get better. And the parent, watching from the lobby, trying to make good decisions about studios, shoes, health, and money without a rulebook. We write for both, and we never talk down to either.

What is changing

For years BalletBox shipped physical products to dancers around the country. We are proud of that chapter. Going forward, our focus is the thing readers told us mattered most: the guidance itself. Expect deeper articles, downloadable practice guides, and curated recommendations for the gear worth buying, from people who have fit the shoes and sewn the ribbons.
