Ballet Companies in Saint Petersburg
Saint Petersburg is home to 2 of the ballet companies we spotlight. Explore each one below.
Mariinsky Ballet
The Mariinsky, known in the Soviet era as the Kirov, is the cradle of Russian classical ballet. Based in Saint Petersburg, it is the company most associated with the Vaganova training method and with a lineage of legendary dancers that reads like a history of ballet itself.
Mikhailovsky Ballet
Mikhailovsky Ballet is a historic Saint Petersburg company performing at the Mikhailovsky Theatre, one of the city's grand old stages. It is often seen as the other major St Petersburg company alongside the Mariinsky, with a strong grounding in the Russian classical tradition.
